The Prayer of Moses
Psalm 90:16-17
Let us your servants see your work again;let our children see your glory.
And may the Lord our God show us his approval and make our efforts successful. Yes, make our efforts successful!
Psalm 90 is one of the few psalms that were not written by David. It was written by Moses. He was a humble man, who walked closely with God. Moses was also a man of prayer. In this prayer, he outlined his heart’s desire namely;
- To see God working in his life.
- That his children would get to see the glory of God.
- That God would show him His approval.
- And make his efforts successful.
Can you imagine the level of fellowship that God had with Moses? Of all prophets, only to Moses, did God talk to face to face. He had such a close encounter with God, that he even asked to see God at one point. On another occasion, Moses stopped God from destroying the children of Israel. So walked closely with God even though he never stepped into the land of promise.
Psalm 90 gives us a clue of how Moses used to pray and what he prayed for. The four items are not just for Moses’ biological children but the whole of Israel to whom he was a father.
He desired to see God working in his life. Hadn’t Moses seen God’s work? Hadn’t he been used of God? Yet still he prays to see more of God working in and through him? He wanted more! He also desired God’s approval! Hadn’t God approved Moses by the miracles He performed through him? Yet again, Moses still asks to be approved. Further, Moses desired that God would bless his efforts and allow the children of Israel to see His glory.
In other words, Moses was asking God to step in, enable him to produce tangible results, put him in command and allow Israel to bear witness. What a noble request!
Well, the Lord heard that prayer and granted it. God continues to work through Moses in mighty ways. To date, both Israel and the entire world are witnesses of how God used Moses. The Lord Blessed all his efforts and caused him to prosper in every way. He built systems that enabled more than half a million people live as a nation on transit through the wilderness. He institutionalize worship, created a justice system, built a system of governance, maintained law and order and fed a whole nation and watered them. God blessed his effort and put him in command. His results reverberate through out all history.
If Moses could make such requests, so should you. And since God shows no partiality, may He do the same for you! As you make this to be your prayer, may God begin to work in your life! May God allow your very own children to see His glory. May God approve you today, because if He approves you, no one can disapprove you. If he approves your application no one can disapprove it! God’s approval will silence your enemies big time. May that be your testimony today.
May the Lord bless all your efforts at the market place, at school and in ministry. May He cause you to be successful and to command results! Amen.
